A dry-docking is the most expensive fortnight in a ship’s year, and the yard’s interest is not yours. Work is sold by the hour and by the kilogram, extras are added once she is on the blocks and cannot leave, and a job done in a hurry is under paint before anyone looks. One superintendent cannot be in the tank, on the hull and in the yard office at the same time. Independent supervision is a second pair of eyes that answers only to the owner: every item of the specification seen before it is covered, every measurement taken, every extra challenged before it reaches the invoice.
Owners and managers order it for dockings, major repairs and conversions, for the whole period or for the stages where the money goes: steel renewal, tank coating, propeller and shaft, the last inspection before she floats. And whenever their own superintendent is spread across three ships.
Have someone at the yard whose only interest is yours. Ask us to supervise the work.
