On/off hire condition survey
The ship as she was handed over, on record.
A time charter begins and ends with a handover, and everything that happens to the ship in between is charged to one side or the other. Dents in the hold frames, a torn hatch gasket, a bent rail by the crane: without a record of what was there at delivery, each of them becomes an argument at redelivery, and the argument is won by whoever kept the better notes.
Owners and charterers order it at delivery and at redelivery, often together with the bunker survey, so that the condition of the ship and the bunkers on board are fixed in one visit.
Have the ship’s condition recorded by someone neither side employs, and redelivery becomes a handover, not a negotiation. Ask us to attend.
