A Port State Control inspection is not an exam the ship can retake. A detention costs the days alongside, the price of putting things right under pressure, and a record that follows the ship, raising her risk profile and bringing more inspections at every port after. Most deficiencies that lead to a detention were visible for weeks before the officer came aboard.
Owners and managers order it before a call in a region where the ship is likely to be targeted, after a change of crew or management, or when her record already needs repair.
Let us walk the ship before the inspector does. It is the cheapest inspection she will ever have.
