Bunkers are bought by the tonne and delivered by the cubic metre, at a temperature that swells them and a density that converts them. Each of those numbers can be nudged, and a short delivery of a few per cent is invisible from the bridge. On a large stem that is money the buyer never sees leave.
Owners, operators and bunker buyers order it for every stem where the money matters, and traders order it when a dispute is already in the air.
If a stem is worth paying for, it is worth measuring. Ask us to attend, and the quantity on the invoice is the quantity in the tanks.
